Seize the Day and see the Birds

This Ewe just wanted to be petted, so we did.

Susi and I have been trying to do at least one day each week to take a long hike or a tour of an interesting town or city.  Ofttimes our plans are all for naught due to the lack of cooperation from the weather man. Yesterday when we saw that the our forecast had changed from steady rain and wind to dry, relatively mild and overcast skies, we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the dry weather to do something outside. After discussing the situation and overcoming our lazy alter ego's desire to cocoon with a good book, we adopted a plan to hike locally.

Springing into action, we hurriedly packed our back packs, put on our hiking boots,  caught the bus to Kinross, got a cup of coffee at our favourite cafe and took a bird watching hike up to the RSBC (Royal Society of Bird Conservation) visitor center and back. By the time we were done, we had covered 13 miles and sited many birds, four of them new to our list.

It was fun day, but boy were we tired and a bit sore afterwards. It was a beans on toast with a beer chaser dinner ,followed by a rented (A Man Called Otto) movie.  All in all, it was a great Carpe Diem adventure followed by a sound sleep. Today was another fine day, but we are too pooped to pop, so settling in a comfortable chair and reading won the battle. The book I chose was the one the movie is based on, “A Man Called Ove”.

The long and winding road that leads to our lunch at the visitor center.

The walls and fields where birds sing but hide or fly before they can be identified.

Fields of beautiful yellow flowers of Canola flowers where birds sing and I sneeze.

And still we look

  1. Glad you got a nice day. That path looks so innocent but sounds as though it was evil.

    1. Actually , it was a great path just long. The cafe at the visitor center had some great vegan options. I chose the vegan haggis and it was wonderful. We did add four or five new birds to Susi’s life list, so that was great.

    1. It is a beautiful place for sure. The best part is that it's also the beautiful people here.
