Fall Running in Scotland

One of my favorite things to do in the morning is to get up and get out for a morning run. Ok, I confess that my heart is in it the night before but at sunrise the enthusiasm is diluted by the desire to linger in bed.

This Comorant is ready too!
My wonderful wife knows me well enough to remind me that it is to both our benefits for me to get up and out the door. I know she is thinking of my health as well as the need for her to have the two or three hours of peace and quiet once I am out of the house.  I guzzle down the rest of my coffee and spring into action. Once I have donned my running uniform and step out the front door, I realize how much I enjoy the time with just myself and the challenge of a long run in whatever atmosphere nature offers me. There is no “running” season here in Scotland as, except for some surprises, the weather is manageable. Fall, however is my absolute favorite in our landscape filled with a variety of deciduous and coniferous trees. The colors are absolutely
amazing!

The start of the run quickly leads to a inviting blue, gold and green forest path!

Followed by a strip of a green leaf shuffle trail.

Eventually coming out to an opening on a golden loch!

With sunlit swans gathering for a morning adventure

An apartment complex, fungus style.

Interesting shade of green along the leaf covered path.

Not to be out done by the leprechauns!

This Sycamore seems to have a green toe!

I have a variety of courses to run, depending on how far I want to go. Whatever the distance, I always arrive home rid of whatever stress I left with. This is just one more reason why I love it here! For the last three weeks, Susi and I have been fighting a bout of flu, so I haven’t been able to do more than the walk over to Kinross for groceries. It’s not a bad walk, but I really want to get back out there. Finger crossed that I will be able to get out the door tomorrow morning.
Just about home after an 8 mile jaunt!
